Speech to Council welcoming ISU Junior Grand Prix Figure Skaters to Boondall

Thanks, Madam Chairman. I just want to speak briefly about the upcoming Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating that will be held this weekend at Ice World Boondall being run by the International Skating Union.

I went along there and did a video message welcoming participants from 21 countries around the world to Boondall to participate in this. A couple of local residents, Amelia and Darian, young residents in my ward are competing along with other Brisbane residents there.

Some of those skaters will be Australia’s representative for figure skating in the 2018 Winter Olympics and this is a championship event. It’s the first time that Brisbane has hosted this event in five years so I’d just like to put on record my best wishes for the Australian team going into the Junior Grand Prix. I wish them all the best and welcome those competitors from 21 different countries to Boondall.
