Music by the Sea Anniversary

Comments in Council December 5 2017

Thanks, Madam Chair. I just rise to briefly put my congratulations on record for
a community organisation that has had a significant milestone over the weekend,
the Music by the Sea Festival in Sandgate has celebrated its 20th anniversary on
Saturday night, which is a festival that has had support of Council and local
Councillors over that entire period based in the Sandgate Town Hall. They had a
hiatus while the hall was closed during the upgrade and was certainly one of the
groups that Council did consult with in terms of what that hall would look and
sound like when it was reopened in 2011.

They have, for the last 20 years, brought world-class entertainment right into the
heart of Sandgate, been supporting local businesses and other groups along the
way. I would just like to thank Zoli and his team this year, and the last few
years, Sharon Henry as well, and I was very proud to be able to support
alongside my State colleague, Stirling Hinchliffe, and Federal colleague,
Wayne Swan, this 20th anniversary concert, to make it a free concert to thank
the community on Saturday night.
